Build Plans: How to become possessed

POSTED BY Erik Beck, 16 October 2007

How to become possessed

Hey everyone and welcome to the technical blog for Episode #23 (Possessed). Working from the example set by the horror classic, "The Exorcist" we turn Justin into a demon possessed dude. Send in your possessed movies, or log into the forums and challenge us to a different special effect.

Shopping List

  1. Soft nose putty.
(I got this stuff and it's almost like clay. Great for making quick and dirty prosthetics.)
  2. Spirit gum.
(You really should have some of this by now.)
  3. Liquid latex
    (Another FX must-have.)
  4. Make-up kit.
(I used reds, yellows, blacks, and purples.)
  5. Tooth wax.
(Easily found at Halloween stores...stock up now!)
  6. 15 ft. garden hose.
(The cheaper the better. Heck use an old one.)
  7. Hose adapter.
(Like a female to female adapter.)
  8. Drill pump.
    (My new favorite toy.)
  9. A bucket
(You probably have one laying around the house.)
  10. Flour.
    (Doesn't take much.)
  11. Green food coloring.
(Or a different color if you want. This is for the puke.)

The make-up

So unlike the zombie make-up, where we used toilet paper to help build up the "grossness", we are using soft nose putty to form face mods. Let's start with the brow ridges. All we need here is a thin mound of nose putty to cover the eyebrows and make the eyes look more recessed. The nose putty sticks pretty good by itself so do not use spirit gum under these pieces. Spirit gum and eyebrows do not mix. Smooth the edges, then apply a covering layer of liquid latex. This will bond the putty and help it move with the rest of the face.

Use this same basic technique to attach the other pieces. These include cuts, tears and "nose damage". The only difference is that I used a layer of spirit gum underneath this pieces.

Now a base layer of white face paint and some yellows around the wounds. Color the inside of the wounds black or dark red.

Next comes the all important blending. I could explain and explain, but really just look at these pictures.

Finish up with some tooth black out!

The vomit shooter

I think the following picture (which I drew on a napkin) really explains everything.

Crank the drill to full speed and get ready for projectile vomit!

    Woo.
I mean, really, who cares if you have the first post?
If you've got something good to say, fine, but dont be childish about it.
